In order to stimulate the start-ups and the spirit of entrepreneurship in Lake Geneva region, Forum EPFL organizes on May 17th 2017 the 2nd edition of the Innovation Night

Bachelor, Master and PhD students from Forum EPFL are invited.

You don’t need to have a start-up idea to participate !


Innovation Night will start at 18:00 in auditorium SG1 with a “Start-Up Success Story” conference and the introduction of your coaches, experts and jurys.

At 19:00 during a short apéritif, you will have the opportunity to form groups of 5 people, according to your affinities and the workshop you want to participate in. If you already have your team you can register together!

You can choose between three different 1 hour workshops:


1. Shared Brain Session


Do you want to tackle a real challenge ?

Do you want to help entrepreneurs overcome real life difficulties, and have an opportunity to meet them ?

Do you want to get a startup idea ?


Choose a real life challenge from a list and develop your own solution  


Choose a start-up and help them overcome their obstacles !


2. Brand your Idea


Do you already have an idea and want to get noticed ?

Do you want to learn more about marketing strategy, distribution network and product positionning ?

Do you want to learn how to distinguish from competitors ?

Do you want to create your brand around your own values ?


Choose an idea from our list or come with your own and learn how to build and boost your brand !


3. Plan your Business


Do you have your idea, you have your team but don’t have the money to kick it up ?

Don’t you have an idea but want to know more about business plans ?

Do you want to consolidate your business model and adapt it to your product ?

When will you break even and start generating revenues ?


Choose an idea from our list or come with your own and learn how to give your start-up the strategy kick !



Whether you came with your idea or just developed one….
You’ll have 25 minutes to prepare your pitch & 3 minutes to sell it to the jury !

The lake Geneva region and more specifically the region of Lausanne hosts one of the most innovative hub in the world: The EPFL Innovation Park

Excellent infrastructures, as well as renown universities all gathered on the same campus offers a synergy for innovation and development of high quality.

The EPFL incentives students and entrepreneurs to create their start-up by providing equipment and offices of the highest standards to make them flourish.


The Innovation Park of EPFL (formerly called Science Park and Innovation Square) was therefor created in 1991 in the south part of campus, with the vision of creating an European Silicon Valley. It now hosts more than 140 start-ups and 15 large companies.

This will to promote innovation and entrepreneurs also affected the student association world. Start, ShARE, STIL or the Forum EPFL offer to all EPFL students the opportunity get involved in this exciting world by creating events and activities to help them start their new life as entrepreneurs.


Registrations Start-Up will be open from the 28th April 2017, 10:00 to the 1st September, 18:00.

To make a clear difference between a young company and a start-up, the Forum EPFL decided on two conditions to fulfill:

The company should:

  • be still financially dependent.
  • have its product solely in the prototype state that has not entered the market yet.

This year’s Start-Up Day will again take place in the SwissTech Convention Center. Stands, presentations and conferences will be held all along the day. Following improvements of the previous years’ Start-Up Day, all registered start-up will benefit of:

  • A stand with a table and two chairs
  • A board for your posters
  • A power outlet (220V, 5A)
  • A Wi-Fi connection
  • A page in our Start-up book with a description of the start-up for the students
  • A networking cocktail at the end of the day

An interactive lunch will also be offered for a at 13:30 for a networking time.

Start Up’s registration conditions

Start Up definition: A startup company is an entrepreneurial venture which is typically a newly emerged, fast-growing business that aims to meet a marketplace need by developing or offering an innovative product, process or service. A startup is a company such as a small business, a partnership or an organization designed to rapidly develop a scalable business model.

To come to our Start Up day as a Start Up, you should fulfil the following conditions:


  • You have not yet been publicly traded on the stock market in an Initial Public Offering (IPO)
  • You have not ceased to exist as an independent entity via a merger or acquisition.
  • You are developing a highly innovative business idea or you are transferring the results of academic research to global markets.
  • You will establish your company in Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany and create jobs in the next months.
  • You have less than 50 employees and 50 million CHF revenue

Please note that Forum EPFL reserves the right to accept or refuse a company or Start-Up unilaterally.


Our Annual Start-Up Day will be held on Wednesday October 10th 2017!

The Start-Up Day was born with the Forum EPFL committee of 2008 and 2009 as the interest of students for the entrepreneurial world.

The Start-Up Day first appeared in 2009 and we will this year celebrate its 9th edition.
